Adam Rossi of Platinum Solutions will present "Visual Scars, Marks, and Tattoo Matching for Law Enforcement" at the next BEACON Lecture at noon on November 14, 2007, at the Lockheed Martin BEACON Center in White Hall (Fairmont), WV. Platinum Solutions has developed an innovative product called "Symbolism" - a unique image matching database optimized for processing pictures of scars, marks, and tattoos on human bodies. SMT matching is used to positively identify individuals using "biometrics at a distance" techniques, in identifying persons who do not have fingerprints or other identifying records on file, and in identifying bodies or body parts. In the case of tattoo matching, the Symbolism software is also useful in identifying gang affiliations in addition to positive identification. The image algorithms used in Symbolism are highly optimized for the SMT domain, particularly for the very challenging low color, high complexity tattoo types often used by gang members. In this presentation, Rosi will review the techniques and methodologies used in Symbolism, and will then demonstrate the product using a wide variety of image types.
