Dr. Joan M. Bienvenue, Supervisor, Validation and Quality Control, Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory, will present this week’s Lockheed-Martin BEACON Lecture at noon on February 20, 2008. Dr. Bienvenue will be presenting on advances in DNA technologies and how that relates to other biometrics. Dr. Bienvenue received a BS in Chemistry from Rivier College, followed by an MS in Forensic Science at the University of New Haven, and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Virginia. She was a National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Graduate Research Fellow while at the University of Virginia, where her graduate work focused on the development of novel DNA purification schemes in integrated microfluidic systems for clinical and forensic DNA analysis, summarized in several peer-reviewed papers. Following her graduate work, she was an ORISE Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the FBI Academy-Quantico, VA, evaluating methods for DNA purification from bone. She is currently at the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory, where she oversees the acquisition, evaluation, and implementation of new technology for forensic casework analysis.
