While the National Biometric Security Project (NBSP) Enterprise is headquartered in Washington, D.C., it has a significant location in the I-79 High Technology Corridor in Morgantown, WV, through its Biometric Services International (BSI) subsidiary. The mission of the NBSP Enterprise is to help deter identity theft in criminal and terrorist activity, and to enhance identity assurance and personal privacy through effective test, evaluation, and application of biometric technologies. The NBSP Enterprise was established after the events of 9/11, with the support of the U.S. Congress, to expedite the deployment of biometric technology for use in critical infrastructure protection applications. Since that time, the NBSP continues to serve as an independent, nonprofit organization that is uniquely situated to provide third party, unbiased support of the biometric industry. The NBSP Enterprise's staff of accomplished professionals consists of engineers and subject matter experts (SMEs) who have specific experience in developing and conducting biometric training courses, evaluating biometric software, developing and performing biometric test and evaluation, participating in international standards efforts, conducting market research and establishing biometric performance criteria in consultation with the global community of biometric experts. The NBSP Enterprise is an ISO 9001:2000 certified organization. Central to the NBSP Enterprises's collective and unique capability for biometric support is the West Virginia-based Biometric Services International , LLC (BSI). BSI, located in Morgantown, consolidates NBSP's testing, training, research, and custom functions into a dedicated operating location and facility. BSI operations support government and private sector clients that have responsibilities for national security and civil infrastructure protection by helping the biometric industry enhance the potential of their products and services and establishing an underlying foundation for long-term support to the biometric community. BSI is the only facilty in the world, exclusively dedicated to biometrics, which has achieved ISO/IEC 170205 accreditation. BSI actively promotes the use of its facilities by agencies of the federal, state, and local governments, and private entities that seek thorough execution of unbiased and objective evaluations of biometric technology, products, and related enterprise solutions. The scope of BSI's efforts is applied at the sub-system level, system level, device level, and people and processes level.
