| Company Description |
The Marshall University Forensic Science Center is a grant-funded program of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). The Center responds to the needs of the national forensics community as a model-working laboratory and as a resource for research, technology, training, and education.
Its state-of-the-art, secure facility is the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) database for West Virginia under the authority of the West Virginia State Police. The Center provides assistance to the forensics community with forensic paternity cases, relationship testing, forensic casework, and convicted offender backlogs.
Other activities include conducting evaluation of expert systems as part of the NIJ's Expert Systems Test Bed Project (NEST). Also, the Center conducts research into the forensic use of DNA, computer forensic analysis, and provides forensic science training in DNA analysis, crime scene investigation, and training for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)/Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).
The Marshall Univeristy Forensic Science Center is ISO/IEC 17025 compliant for databasing and casework and is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) for parentage testing.
